The goal of water polo school is to train and teach participants basic swimming techniques and basic elements of water polo specific techniques. School lasts two years and brings together children from 9 (10) to 11 years old. For the teaching of basic swimming and water polo techniques we can apply different models of work. But for a longer and more thorough work children should first learn different water games.

Games The goal for the students is to get used to the water, and the work should start and be carried out in shallow pools (if possible). By breaking the fear of water, as well as getting used to free movement in the shallows, basic elements are to be addressed before adopting regular swimming technique. Based on the action and the purpose we divide games to:

- Games for free movement and to overcome resistance of the water, - Games to practice breathing in the water, - Games to create a habit of looking through the water,

- Games to practice diving under water, - Games to practice sliding and buoyancy in the water,

- Games for practicing jumping into the water.

Participants who go through this program, practically by playing and having fun, do not notice that they have learned "to swim". We can mention some games that can be applied in this school program:

- Running in the shallows, - diving - Water Games with Ball (volleyball, basketball), - Relays, - "Rugby - Water Polo" etc.

When finished with this phase of "games" we should begin to cultivate the art of swimming.

The beginners group of water polo school

The goal of this group is the order process and learning of the basic swimming techniques: freestyle, breaststroke (requirement for water polo eggbeater), backstroke and butterfly and butterfly with breaststroke kick. The program should last about one year and the teaching should start thru following methods:

a.) The method of oral presentation (description, explanation, correction, analysis) and

b.) The method of demonstration.

Therefore, it is important for beginners to learn the proper techniques of swimming.

If during this period improper technique is acquired, later will be very difficult to correct that and will be reflected as an impediment to successful mastering of water polo techniques. Methodic training of competitive swimming techniques and choice of exercises are discussed in many swimming textbooks, but what is important is that coach should be able to quickly and reliably diagnose errors that appear in learning of swimming.

In the event that water polo coach in your school does not sufficiently know swimming technique, you should seek the help of swimming coach, because working improperly can cause a lot of damage that will no longer be able to correct. Therefore, it is advisable to hire a quality swimming coach. Inadvertently that can create good cooperation with the swimming school which also may contain potential water polo players.
